Enriching lives of seniors

Arc Broward Seniors

As one of The Jim Moran Foundation's nonprofit partners, Arc Broward provides opportunities for older adults with disabilities and other life challenges to achieve their full potential through its Intensive Senior Day Program. Each day brings a full schedule of engaging activities including music, art, nutrition, recreation and exercise to help participants maintain a healthy and more independent lifestyle.

"The successes of our program are visible every day, as our seniors receive services uniquely tailored to their individual needs and the needs of seniors in general," said Dennis Haas, president & CEO, Arc Broward. "Positive relationships are at the heart of everything we do, and our seniors feel supported to grow."

Mentors empower young moms for success

Destiny looks forward to becoming a mentor one day like Courtney.

Two months before delivering a healthy baby boy, high school senior Destiny was matched with Courtney through Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Palm Beach County’s Caps & Cribs Teen Mom Mentor Program. While being a new parent, Destiny faced significant obstacles in achieving her life goals. Through her hard work and Courtney's support and guidance, she remained on track for graduation – even earning a place on the honor roll. During weekly in-person meetings, they completed college applications and planned for her future. Destiny will attend Palm Beach State College next month to prepare for a career in occupational therapy.

Help when it's needed most

From minor home repairs and rental assistance to dental care and energy bills, ElderSource meets emergency needs for seniors like Gus.

From minor home repairs and rental assistance to dental care and energy bills, ElderSource meets emergency needs for seniors like Gus (above with his grandchildren).

ElderSource’s Senior to Senior Crisis Program offers emergency financial support to older adults facing unexpected hardships in Duval County.

At 67, Gus found himself raising his two young granddaughters alone. A plumber by trade, he retired several years ago due to disabilities and was having difficulty covering their living expenses on his limited income. Gus applied for HUD housing to lower his monthly rent and recently received approval. Since he lacked resources for the deposit and first month’s rent, ElderSource stepped in with funds to ensure Gus and his granddaughters could move into safe, affordable housing.
