Message from Jan Moran, Chairman and President

Each year, The Jim Moran Foundation provides funding that goes beyond our traditional grant making to commemorate my husband’s birthday. In tribute to his lifetime of caring for others, we recently selected seven nonprofits from Broward, Palm Beach and Duval counties to receive nearly $2 million for initiatives that I know would have very special meaning to him. We are responding to seniors' emergency needs, encouraging fun outside play and literacy for children, helping low-income women gain self-sufficiency and much more.

All of us at The Foundation are excited about the positive impact these grants will have in the lives of those who are served by our dedicated nonprofit partners. As you read about them below, I hope you feel inspired to learn a little more about their work.

In celebration of our founder, The Jim Moran Foundation announces the following grants:

Caridad Center ($125,000 for one year) offers free comprehensive medical, vision and dental care, as well as social services, for uninsured and underserved children and families in Palm Beach County. This funding will build a playground next to the clinic as well as provide general operating support.

ElderSource ($290,000 over two years) provides assistance to older adults in Jacksonville facing unexpected life challenges through its Senior to Senior Program. In addition to emergency support such as minor home repairs and energy bills, The Foundation's grant will add a staff person to work directly with Duval County seniors in crisis.

Jacksonville Humane Society ($262,900 over three years) will expand its education programs to reach more than 2,500 children per year. Through its Pawsitive Reading Program, Camp Paw Prints and school tours, children will improve their reading skills while learning about kindness and compassion to animals and each other. This funding will add an education outreach position, as well as provide books for children to start their own home library.

National Autism Registry ($75,000 over three years) provides chocolatier and pastry classes as well as barista training at The Chocolate Spectrum for young adults with developmental disabilities in Palm Beach County. Funding will allow for continued courses, employment training and life skills instruction.

Nurse-Family Partnership ($335,600 over two years) matches low-income, first-time mothers with specially trained nurses who offer support and resources during home visits from pregnancy until the child's second birthday. This grant will add two nurses (one in Broward County and one in Duval County) to help families create safe, healthy and stable futures.

Susan B. Anthony Recovery Center ($550,000 over two years) provides mothers recovering from addiction and their children with counseling, treatment and resources to heal and strengthen families in Broward County. Funding from The Foundation will renovate the campus including its 40 apartments, a children's playroom, new air conditioning and security enhancements.

Women's Circle ($200,000 for one year) empowers hundreds of low-income women in Palm Beach County each year through education and career development classes. The Foundation’s grant will help expand the organization’s programming through the completion of its new building.
